Page Loaders

I like these little loaders you see around. In fact I’m 90% more likely to hang around if a site tells me what is happening. If it loads slow I normally just move on to the next site… unless…

How to reduce Firefox memory consumption

How to reduce memory usage in Mozilla Firefox

1. Type about:config in the Firefox address bar
2. Search for browser.sessionhistory.max_entries
3. Double click on the value 50, change it to something lower, 5 should be good.

Explanations

Averagely we surf less than 5 of the websites we previously surfed before, there is no need to usage up that much memory (which is 50 by default)

Removing Dotted Links

A few days ago Amber pointed out the ugly dotted outlines that appear around every link on the Instinct site. The fixes… fix one & fix two. Why does Internet Explorer make everything hard I ask you…

Morfik Patents AJAX Compiler

I don’t have much to add this this story… aside from the fact that Morfik are utter jerks. Jerks Jerks Jerks. Although I probably don’t need to say that because anybody wanting to patent technology is in fact a jerk… well I suppose the real Jerks are the American government and legal system that honour some of the crazy American patents out there. Alas….

On television last night Duncan Bannatyne from Dragons Den was saying that although a Patent Lawyer can tell you whether or not something is indeed patentable they can not tell you whether or not it is a good idea. In fact they are more then likely to tell you that it is regardless, even if your idea obviously sucks! This is “obviously” always in their interest.

Morfik look as though they patented something that was already done. Jerks…

Gmail “Out of Office”

Is fantastic little piece of functionality. Because its not easy to setup out of office stuff for non geeks using Sendmail on apache I instead forwarded my @instinct.co.nz email to my gmail, and setup an out of office responder that sends a vacation message using an instinct.co.nz return email address! Very nice google… very nice indeed.

Zeliard! Sierra…

When I was a kid I loved playing computer games. Two games in particular were Quest for Glory and Zeliard made by Sierra Entertainment.

I awoke from a dream the other night thinking about Zeliard - based on that somewhat subconscious order from the back of my mind I though I better post some links to keep it fresh in my mind.

WP 2.1 Hidden Editor Buttons

I found this via Weblog tools. I think that the hidden buttons are great - it would be much better if they were not Easter Eggs at all but features. They should either be visible all the time, or it should at least remember your choice to display them or not, or maybe there should be a show/hide button. Hopefully that will come later…

Wordpress 2.1 Hidden Editor Buttons An Easter Egg was found by Chris in Wordpress 2.1. Just hit alt-shift-v (Firefox) or alt-v (IE) to toggle the advanced editor features/buttons in the TinyMCE WYSIWYG interface. alt-v, instead of alt-shift-v works on my Firefox. Via Reviewsaurus.com

Also found via Digg: You can also use alt-shift-n to automatically spell check your post.

Google Apps to Become Paid Service

Business Week reports Google Apps is becoming a paid service soon for companies who wish to use it for their domain. Disney and Pixar are reportedly thinking about switching to Google Apps innstead of using Microsoft Office. Could this be the end of a monopoly? Or the start of a new one?
