V

for vendetta was absolutely brilliant. I think the brothers Wachowski redeemed themselves for the last two Matrix films, which in my opinion were flops and should never have happened. If have some spare time to kill and you’re going to see a movie then make sure its this one – V for Vendetta is a far out glimpse of what the world could be like in a future gone terribly wrong…

Merchant of Venice

Was fantastic! I really enjoyed acting it, I quite like the story. I don’t like “reading” Shakespeare, I find it too hard. It’s much easier to be in a team environment where you’re all playing it. The Merchant of Venice is a thought provoking tale and makes you wonder about how the world used to be… how corrupt it was, and how corrupt it still is…

I think my next encounter with Shakespeare will be in London, watching the RSC perform Antony and Cleopatra. Ciao for now…

Beshrew Me

Beshrew me, but I love her heartily,
For she is wise if I can judge of her,
And fair she is if that mine eyes be true,
And true she is as she hath proved herself,
Therefore, like herself fair, wise, and true,
Shall she be placed in my constant soul….

What play is that from?

On Writing – Again

The only way to learn to write is by writing. That would not be a useful approach to brain surgery. Because that is the way it is done. Compulsive diligence is almost enough. But not quite. You have to have a taste for words. Gluttony. You have to want to roll in them. You have to read millions of them written by other people.
You read everything with grinding envy or a weary contempt. You save the most contempt for the people who conceal ineptitude with long words, Germanic sentence structure, obtrusive symbols, and no sense of story, pace or character.
The you have to start knowing yourself so well that you begin to know other people. A piece of us is in every person we can ever meet.
Okay, then. Stupendous diligence, plus word-love, plus empathy, and out of that can come, painfully, some objectivity.
Never total objectivity.
At this frangible moment in time I am typing these words on my blue machine, seven lines down from the top of my page two is this introduction, knowing clearly the flavour and meaning I am hunting for, but not at all certain I am getting it.
- John D. Macdonald

I feel in touch… “I was in a meeting today and I was day dreaming, a pool of words, like a spaghetti of words, but it was clear and the strings were black.

Todays a day. Got heaps of emailing done so far. Sent out some invoices. Yes tis a good day. We move into our new Flat on monday. Its a charmer, lots of character. I can’t wait – but at the same time I’m going to miss staying out at Mum and Dad’s, and Peter and Fran’s. They have all been very hospitable, kind, caring and loving.

By the way the play went down something awesome. I’m glad I did it, I learnt lots and just adore Shakespeare (the grand master). Red’s also put me onto another good author called John Webster who is apparently one of Shakespeare’s contempories… but a lot more dark. I’d love to see if he has done any plays.

I’m going to try get hold of mark to see if he wants to do lunch now.

The Manchurian Candidate

The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
I saw the original last night. It was an amazing film, the lack of colour did not lessen the experience at all. I actually preferred this version to the new 2004 remake starring Denzel Washinton. It was good see something with Frank Sinatra & Laurence Harvey, they both played their roles excellently. What is most amazing about this film is the concept (brain washing) and how cutting edge it was for its time.
I give this a 8.5 (going on 9) out of 10

The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
A good fun film. But not as good as the original. If you have nothing else to do on a rainy day then this is worth renting. Denzel plays his part well (as usual) but if you haven’t seen the original watch it first and make a whole day of it!
I give this a 6 out of 10
