Netoboru (NINJ4S!!!)

For those of you who don’t know I’ve been playing netball on Wednesday nights with Gate 7. We kick ass! Except we don’t win much yet. We’re getting better though - The Gate 7 Ninja Assassins comes to mind.

Bretts Palsy - Habeas Corpus

Bretts Palsy, Habeas Corpus, and Dennis. Three words that should forever be united under any decent google search. I was Dennis, I had Bretts Palsy, and the play was Habeas Corpus. And now its finished. It was all so much fun - the set building, the rehearsing, the play, and the set dismantling… well that was sad not fun.

So anyway the play finished on the weekend. It was a blast - we all hung out at the school hall until at least 2am by which time we were all pretty much zonked. I really enjoyed this play, probably in part because I felt a little more confident and it was easier for me to act in a comedy.

Thanks for everyone who turned up. To those who didn’t… have a good excuse… well… you know who you are! I’ll remember that next time you have something special ;)

I’ll be upload some photos in the not too distant future.

Aotearoa?

Aotearoa… where the heck is that? I live in New Zealand. No I’m just joshing. I’m proud of both my English and Kiwi heritage. I was thinking about the word Aotearoa and how it keeps popping up in places - such as ‘Country name’ in Skype. I guess thats cool but I got thinking about those people who actually want to change the name of our country, or our flag, a new Haka, a new xy and perhaps even z. Think of all the atlases that will need to be changed!!!! Think of all the wasted money - I think all the people who don’t like the existing flag should go and get there ‘new age’ I don’t have an identity *sniff sniff* design tattooed on there bums :)

Aloha!

Hawaii was amazing by the way. We met lots of great people, hung out with lots of great people, we went to a great convention, did some great meetings, we went snorkling in the reef, swam in Waikiki, I touched a turtle during a snorkling mission down at the captain cook memorial, we swam near a great waterfall in our undies, we swam in the rock pools down by the sea in Hilo, we visited the Volcanos, and we checked out the lava trees. Next I have to show you all some photos!!

One thing we were all probably a little nervous about was the idea of being attacked by a shark. As unlikely as that is I want to share with you the following. How To Reduce the Risk of Shark Attack and Injury Here’s How:

1. Swim, surf, or dive with other people, and don’t move too far away from assistance.

2. Stay out of the water at dawn, dusk, and night, when some species of sharks may move inshore to feed.

3. Do not enter the water if you have open wounds or are bleeding in any way. Sharks can detect blood and body fluids in extremely small concentrations.

4. Avoid murky waters, harbor entrances, and areas near stream mouths (especially after heavy rains), channels, or steep dropoffs. These types of waters are known to be frequented by sharks.

5. Do not wear high-contrast clothing or shiny jewelry. Sharks see contrast very well.

6. Refrain from excesive splashing; keep pets, which swim erratically, out of the water. Sharks are known to be attracted to such activity.

7. Do not enter the water if sharks are known to be present, and leave the water quickly and calmly if one is sighted. Do not provoke or harass a shark, even a small one.

8. If fish or turtles start to behave erratically, leave the water. Be alert to the presence of dolphins, as they are prey for some large sharks.

9. Remove speared fish from the water or tow them a safe distance behind you. Do not swim near people fishing or spearfishing. Stay away from dead animals in the water.

10. Swim or surf at beaches patrolled by lifeguards, and follow their advice.

On the Tokyo Game Show

It is my first full day alone in Tokyo. I have spent the early part of the morning on the internet looking for maps and information on how to get to Nippon Convention Centre. I head of to the Shinagawa Station and jump on the next Train to Mikuhari Messe, I’m on my way to the Tokyo Game Show – at first I wonder if I am even heading in the right direction but as the train becomes more and more full of geeks, spotty teenagers, and costume players I realise I must be heading in the right direction.

Thrive!!!

Today I attended Thrive, a local wgtn event held at the Embassy Theater for local business people to go and listen to successful Kiwis who have essentially ‘made it’. Speakers included Karen Walker, Trademe founder Sam Morgan, Callum Davies founder of Hell Pizza (I remember buying ribs from his first shop in Kelburn back in the day with Scotty!!!), the CEO of NZ Post, the director of the Mc Diamond institute, the owner of L’AFFARE coffee, Doug Haines a tax guy from BDO spicers, Andrew Stone the CEO of Saatchi and Saatchi, Paul Weavr from Haines recruitment advertising company, and Tana Umaga the captain of the All Blacks. Given I’m not the worlds biggest follower of Rugby, Tana I discovered is a really nice guy and I actually believe he is good captain material - it was good to hear him say that one of their biggest weaknesses is how the board keep replacing their coaches and how it really disrupts their style each time there is a change. In a way that really sucks that there are a whole lot of pencil pushers firing coaches and thus contributing in a really major way to the shortcomings of our team.
