Maud Dib: i know – i dont care where ‘you’ get the money as long as i get it. You hearing me!
Quiddity
1. The real nature of a thing; the essence.
2. A hairsplitting distinction; a quibble.
palpable
1. Capable of being handled, touched, or felt; tangible: Anger rushed out in a palpable wave through his arms and legs (Herman Wouk).
2. Easily perceived; obvious: There was a palpable sense of expectation in the court (Nelson DeMille). See Synonyms at perceptible.
3. Medicine. That can be felt by palpating: a palpable tumor.
“You love?” He asks, furrowing his brow ever so slightly.
“Love is just a word,” he replies.
“Love,” like “yellow” is just a wordbut it’s also more than that. Plato posited that these conceptsor Ideashave actual existence and form, albeit in some transcendent form that we, being shackled in our material bodies, cannot experience directly. However, we can know them indirectlyan action is good, or a flower is yellow.
:P
A flower isn’t yellow silly!
Our eyes just see yellow light bouncing off it. and blue flowers don’t even do that!
and actions aren’t good, only peoples reactions and consequences create feelings of goodness about it.
haheheh!!
:P
without action there would be no reaction… physics 101 man!
The interesting thing about love is that reactions and consequences are secondary. Primary is the desire to give selflessly, to serve, to honour.
I smile at how love contradicts the popular “me” culture.
sometimes, however, wanting to give and serve is done selfishly …
Sometimes wanting to give without regard to self and to serve are born of a selfish need.
Motive is everything, what you guys (name and webjones) are talking about is something entirely different.
Love is a very real and powerful thing. You can intellectualise that comment all you like, but at the end of the day you’re missing out not us :P
“without action there would be no reaction… physics 101 man!”
Well tell me what caused the bigbang if you hold that theory then the universe never started, it has always been for infinity, But thats another lecture on temporal mechanic. Action begets action is a very newtonian viewpoint, when you look at quantium mechanics things do happen by random chance just look at proton anti-proton anihaliation. but this is all physics and i can’t be arsed lecturing that all night ;)
And Dan your about as Bias as monkey jay of course your inclined to believe in love, because your in it, its like telling a christian there is no god, of course they are going to dismiss you as a moron, they are so caught up in their own ego they cant interlectualise properly :). i’ll leave you with that for food for thought…
It’s not much to chew on Tuatha ;)
When you say I’m in love. I dont actually understand; I love lots of people and I find it very full fulling.
You could probably use your own argument to prove love ‘does’ exist if you wanted to pick away at the chemical reaction that happens to a human being when they experience love, or any other emotion for that matter…
Maybe love is a certain amount of serotonin or dopamine being released due to certain human experiences.
You cant prove or disprove anything, we all know that science has it’s shortcomings and that they havent even got around to understanding some of the very fundamentals. Yet. Maybe they never will, maybe even you (o dark lord) may be forced to open up to the possibility of a higher power ;P
Why is there this perception that everything must be intellectualised to death. There are some things in this world that are beyond mere human intellect. It is not due to ego that ‘Chrisitians’ can have a strong faith. What are they missing by having a belief? I think the question should be ‘what are you missing Tuatha that leads you to such a pessimistic approach to things conceptual? Love and Faith are two things that are incalculable, they are by their own admission at times irrational and non-sensical at first glance, but so too is science. With regards to the theory that the Universe has always been- I think you will find that the name for such a line of thought is the ‘Steady State Theory’. It suggests that the universe is infinitely old and has remained in a steady state despite the fact that the universe was indeed expanding. Not to go into detail, it is just interesting to note that the man that created such a hypothesis and created a model to prove this was the same man who coined the term ‘Big Bang’(though it was meant derogatorily)
Mufasa was right in part, every action needs to have an equal and opposite reaction. the Big Bang theory supports this. The problem is that scientists up until now have tried to divert attention away form the obvious question: ‘Where did the original material for the Big Bang come from? What came before it? There was something, the BBT has merely described the consequences of this ‘something’ that it cannot specify and does not understand. Random chance is a convenient approach for scientists to hold true to, as it means there are no awkward starting conditions to deduce or explain…..but this is an illusion.
:)
on love, i always liked kahlil gibran’s words – especially:
“But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears. “
ok admittedly i stopped reading after my own comment, but then tuatha said i was biased? i didn’t read the rest but I just want to know biased about what?.
Ps In case you couldn’t tell Any post I make that is “Intellectual” in the stoned teenager sense of the word that all these posts seem to be, I am just stirring to make argument.
